Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect the first time I show up for session?

The first session you meet with the counselor is commonly called the "assessment" or "initial evaluation". You will begin by filling out important documents that will be provided to you. Once you have completed the paperwork, you will meet with the therapist in an office where she will conduct an interview. The assessment is unique from other treatment sessions in that there are a number of prescribed questions that the therapist will ask in order to give her insight on how to best help. Based on the client's responses to assessment questions, the therapist and client collaboratively discuss a treatment plan that will act as a guide for future sessions in order to ultimately attain the client's identified goals.

You can access the intake paperwork needed for your initial session here for your convenience.

How can I know if therapy is for me?

Therapy is a resource that people can use to reach meaningful goals when life circumstances have them feeling stuck. When pursued genuinely, counseling can provide long-lasting benefits such as an increased sense of self-awareness, skills that can improve daily functioning and enhance relationships. Therapy is most effective when the client's personal development is set as a priority. For a more in-depth discussion on this topic, check out the podcast "Is Therapy for Me?

What if I need couple's counseling and my partner is not interested?

Although both members of the couple are needed to participate in couple's counseling, your relationship may still benefit from therapy even if one partner is not willing to attend. As a result of the inter-relatedness of those in a relationship,  an individual client progressing in therapy has the power to affect change that can impact the relationship as a whole.

How can I schedule an appointment?

You may schedule an appointment by calling 702.483.0826. Please leave your name, the type of services you are seeking, a call back number, and the best time to reach you over the phone. The therapist will return your phone call as soon as possible. You may also leave a typed message with the same information above on our contact page.

Why do you not accept insurance as a form of payment?

Working with insurance plans can place restrictions on treatment outcomes as they often cover only a limited amount of therapy sessions. In order to provide client's with the best individualized care, Body and Mind Company does not take insurance as payment.
